Lake Windermere
Today we travelled back to the Lakes.
We visited Dalemain House, a stately mansion, complete with a Priest's Hole.
We passed through Keswick, Grasmere and reached Windermere.
The weather was not so kind today, however we still had a full day.
We travelled home via Kendal, Shap and Penrith. We stopped for a meal at the Gosling Bridge in Carlisle.
Home tomorrow.....but next week it's Perth!
I am a day late with this blog.....
Yesterday we spent a gloriously hot summer's day on and around Lake Ullswater in the Lake District of Northern England.
We arrived at Pooley Bridge about 11am. We walked round to the pier and boarded the steamer. We sialed to Howtown, where we disembarked.
We wandered around taking photos, found the Hotel, and had sandwiches....and a cool beer for me.
We caught the next steamer to Ridding, stayed on board, and made the return journey to Pooley Bridge.
There we had a delicious salad with Ullswater Pie. It contains, ham, chicken, sage stuffing, ginger and apricots.
Then we got back inot the car and drove back round to Howton, and then we nt on till we reached a medieval church..St Martin's, with a 700 year old Yew tree in the grounds.
Then, we made our way, tired and sun burned, to the Travelodge.

We are at a Travelodge just outside Carlisle, at Todhills.
It has been a busy day.
I quietly slipped over to Martin's house and put the paving stones and plant pots in their front garden.
I went home, packed and made pancakes for this afternoon's birthday bar-b-q.
We spent a pleasant 2 hours at the party, then we left at 7pm to drive south.
Just short of the border, the rian started. It fairly poured down!
Yet we are warned this week will be hot! hot! hot!
Tomorrow we will either do Hadrian's Wall, or drive through the Lake District, an area of great natural beauty.
This photo I took during a Solemn High Mass in Sao Paolo just before Christmas 2008

Busy Saturday
I took daughter to work this morning. A huge plume of smoke could be seen for miles. A scrapyard on the other side of the river near the Airport has been burning since last night.
We got a fair bit of work done in the garden at the back and side today. We have filled 3 planters with plants, have got 3 flagstones, and will take these to Martin tomorrow at his birthday bar -b -q.
It has been warm today, but the sky is cloudy and stormy looking. Warnings are being given about possible high temperatures next week.
We leave for England tomorrow after the party.
Phot was taken in Sao Paolo as the Mounted police passed by.
Today was the final day of the 2008 - 2009 school term.
We went to Mass in the morning. Afterwards, Father John joined us in the staffroom for tea.....and cakes....and sausage rolls....and sweets.......toast.....and..
Lunch was early, midday, back to class at 12.45pm, and closing at 1pm. The class I was covering were the Primary7.It was their final day in primary school. In August they will be starting at the brand new St. Peter The Apostle Secondary School.
It was an emotional day for them, and there were many tears spilled.
I took this photo last night about 9pm. Sky was beautifully coloured.

Retirement Day
One of my former colleagues retires tomorrow after 40 years of teaching. It's nice to be at school this week to take part in the final events. She and her husband have bought a camper van, and are off to France and Spain next week.
We had a school assembly for her today, with lots of surprises. Her husband was there to share in it too.
We have a Nurture Base in our school which was begun by this teacher. For the last week or so, a film company have been back in making a follow up TV programme about the successes of this Educational idea.
My wife and I are off on Sunday to the Border Country for 3 days. Hope the weathe
r we have now continues.

Hot days
Another hot muggy day today. At least my classroom is cool, as I keep the windows all open, and there is a breeze. Only disadvantage is the noise from the Nursery below my room.
2 more days to go. I watered the garden again tonight. The soil is drying very quickly.
I took some photos afterwards. A couple are here.

Working Day
Today was fine at school. All the resources have been gathered in for the end of term. So it was a do as you want day. Sone drew, some computed. I did an RE lesson after lunch.
By the time I got home the temperature was climbing towards 24C.
I took some stuff to the mail to post. I cut front and back gardens. I lopped off some tree branches. I cleaned up the paths. Then I went to Asda for some shopping, came home and made dinner. Bed next. I am tired.
The photo is inside Lincoln Cathedral.
I took all the photos on this blog

I'm Working Tomorrow
I was given early retirement from teaching a year ago. I miss teaching and my colleagues.
This week is the final week of the 2008-2009 school year. I will be in school teaching from tomorrow till Friday. I'm excited about that. The final week of a school term is always special. For another staff memeber, this will be her final week too. Over the next 2 years there will be many retirals amongst primary teachers in Catholic schools, as there was a huge recruitement in the 1970s.
Roll on tomorrow
