On Saturday night we attended a Burns celebration at Cumbernauld Theatre.
There were 3 performers : Joyce Falconer, Annie Grace, and our son John.
There was music, poetry and humour. There was Haggis Neeps and Tatties for all and a wee dram for the non drivers.
It was a good night.
The highlight for me was a song sung by Annie about Slavery. It was haunting and powerful.
And it got me thinking. At many Burns Suppers, there can be a concentration on the bawdy side of Burns and the drunkeness.
Burns is much greater than that, and maybe it is time to switch the emphasis from the standard works read at these events to the more thoughtful examples oh his undoubted talent.
