Last week we were in Haltwhistle, a small town about 25 miles south of carlisle, and lying along Hadrian's Wall.
We stayed in a flat on the main street, and all the local facilities were within a few steps. The Catholic Church was about 4 minute walk away.
We had a very relaxing time indeed. We visited Hexham, Wallsend, Brampton and Barnard Castle.
The weather was great. The car performed well, 61miles per gallon on the drive south.
We ate out at the local pubs and hotels. We had a nice Sunday roast, and an especially nice steak at the hotel next door.
Haltwhistle claims to be the centre of Britain. The flat overlooks the main road, so you can watch the passing folk.
All in all, just what we needed, after almost 10 weeks of unexpected teaching work.
Here are some photos of Haltwhistle and the flat.
