It was not too bad. I saw some interesting sights along the way. Unusual signposts, clouds over the Blue Ridge Mountains....the ones Laurel and Hardy sang of... and the usual huge trucks.
I stopped for a Burger King and fuel en route. I also passed a number of wineries. I picked one at random, not too far into the Mountains, and bought a nice wine, which is still to be opened.
The winery I visited was the Lovingston Winery, in Freshwater Lane Lovingston.
I got to taste very small sips as I was driving. I settled for a bottle of Petit Manseng, which appealed to my taste. But there were lots of wineries. Next time.
Finally I reached my Best Western in Lynchburg, where I would stay for 2 days. I did not have time to visit historic down town Lynchburg. Maybe next time.
It was also here I hit a slight headache. The part of my GPS that attaches to the windscreen broke, and i had to find a way of wedging it against the glass. Not ideal.
Subsequently, I have been unable to find a replacement. TomTom no longer support this device, and frequent searches of the net have met with no success.
From Lynchburg I would be visiting Appomattox, the place where the Southern surrender was made my Robert E Lee to Ulysses S Grant.
I often wonder, as I peruse history, that if I had had a middle initial, would I have been more of a success?Even the Doctors in my Health Centre all have middle initials.....just wondered...
I was really looking forward to the next day's trip to Appomattox and Appomattox Court House. And God was going to give me glorious weather!!!
