Portpatrick Revisited

Last week we returned to the Portpatrick Hotel for a Sunday to Friday break. Portpatrick is a small village right on the seaside with a pretty harbour and a lifeboat station. The Hotel stands over the village, and it is nice to look down on the village from on high.

We were blessed with very good weather for almost each day, and used the opportunity to visit the surrounding areas. The nearest large town is Stranraer, which used to be the main ferry port for Ireland. Today the ferries of P&O and Stenna, sail from further alonf the coast at Cainryan.
You can actually easily see the Irish coast from Portpatrick.

We enjoyed our stay. The hotel was comfortable, the food pleasant.  We spent a couple of hours each day either sitting on the Hotel verandah, or down at the harbour. We had 2 very tasty afternoon snacks at a little coffee shop / bistro by the harbour.

Just before leaving I bought a new camera. I had been looking for a while and finally settled on the new Panasonic bridge camera, the FZ72 which features a 60X optical zoom with a good image stabiliser.

Sadly it turned out the the camera was faulty and had actually been returned by anothe customer. Currys promised a replacement on my return, which was quickly achieved today. Everything appearsto be functioning on this camera, and I understand now how much was not working on the first camera.
There is always a learning curve with new camera, but I am quickly picking up how to switch between settings and menus. The photos here were taken with the faulty camera. They are some views of Portpatrick, some during the day, some as night fell. The photo of the moon, hand held, shows the power of the zoom.
